Millbrook and the Environment

The stunning alpine setting and rural environment are an essential part of what attracts visitors to Millbrook, and Queenstown as a whole, so it's not surprising that preserving it for future generations is foremost in our thoughts.

Some initiatives already in place include to minimise our impact on the local environment include:

Energy Consumption

Reducing energy consumption makes perfect sense for a business like Millbrook – we reduce our impact on the local environment, minimise our contribution to global problems, and reduce the costs associated with running the business simultaneously.

Here are some of the steps we’ve taken so far towards minimising our energy consumption:

  • As we refurbish our rooms, we’re installing gas fires with remote Internet starting capabilities to provide on-demand heating. This lets us reduce the base heat currently supplied by the ceiling panels. We already use on-demand gas water heaters in many areas to reduce the energy consumption of rooms that are not in use.
  • Energy efficient light bulbs are used in all exterior lighting applications possible.
  • The main laundry washing machines are running at low temperature settings to reduce hot water consumption, while not compromising the wash quality.
  • The new Coronet Square homes will be built with high levels of insulation to minimize the heating & cooling loads.
  • Our maintenance programme focuses on energy efficiency and sustainability.

Potable Water

Although Millbrook, and New Zealand in general are blessed with a plentiful supply of water, we are still very conscious of the need to preserve water, and to ensure the quality of water that leaves the property is of the highest possible standard.

With this in mind, we have:

  • Installed efficient drip irrigation systems where possible to avoid the high evaporation rate of overhead watering.
  • Installed low flow shower heads and flow restrictors
