The Avenue

The stunning avenue of trees which heralds the arrival to Millbrook is over one hundred years old (probably closer to 140) and is made up of the following 127 trees.

94 Scotch Elm (Ulmus glabra)

13 Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus)

11 Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)

6 English Oak (Quercus robor)

3 White Poplar (Populus alba)

Around the northern end of the Avenue are also planted several specimen Wellingtonia, (Sequoiadendron gigantium). These are from the original farm plantings. Also in this area and planted later, are groups of the Great White Cherry, (Prunus “Tai Haku”). These provide a superb display of blossom in the spring.

Upon arrival at reception, the large conifer in the middle of the turning circle is a mature Kashmir Cypress, (Cuppressus kashmiriana). The orange berried trees on the lawn in front of the Millhouse are Rowans, (Sorbus aucuparia)

Branching out from reception, the areas around The Clubhouse restaurant and 18th green are home to many established trees. The Health and Fitness centre end of the Clubhouse is home to a large stand of Cork Elm and English Oak, and the area between the Clubhouse and the Millhouse Cafe has many large Oaks, Chestnuts, Ash, Sycamore and Walnuts.

Taking the road from reception towards the Village Inn accommodation, you will see two superb examples of small-leafed Linden or Lime, (Tilia cordata). These are situated on the left-hand side of the road across from the entrance to the 10th tee. During late summer you can smell the beautiful honey scented flowers from these trees.
