Millbrook Celebrates Staff Achievements


The 2019 New Zealand Hotel Industry Awards were hosted on June 20th at the Cordis hotel in Auckland.  Overall 39 finalists from hotels throughout New Zealand attended the awards, from which 13 winners were selected. Queenstown’s luxury accommodation provider, Millbrook Resort, was proud to have four finalists attend the awards with two of these outstanding individuals winning their categories on the night.

The annual conference and awards which is dedicated to the hotel industry has been running for 12 years and attracts talented hospitality individuals from throughout New Zealand.  The awards are co-sponsored by Horwath HTL and Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA).  TIA represents the interests of 170 members across New Zealand and is focused on developing and recognising talented individuals in the hospitality industry who are dedicated to delivering amazing guest experiences. 

Millbrook Resort’s finalists have all made significant contributions to the resort during their employment and were finalists across the following categories: Administration Employee of the Year - Katie Church, Outstanding Young Hotel Executive of the Year - Matthew McDonald , Housekeeper Employee of the Year – Nicolas Souto and Sales, Marketing and Distribution Employee of the Year – Amanda Youell.   We look forward to what the future brings for them and Millbrook Resort.

Matt McDonald, who won Outstanding Young Hotel Executive of the Year, has an unwavering passion for New Zealand’s tourism industry which is demonstrated daily in his role as Millbrook’s Food & Beverage Operations Manager.  Matt is accountable for the smooth daily operations of five dining outlets at the five-star resort, including: Kobe Cuisine, Millhouse Restaurant, Hole in One Cafe, Smithy’s Smoke House, and the Clubhouse.  Matt is highly committed to Millbrook Resort having commenced his career with them several years ago with an internship at the Clubhouse.  He then worked his way up from a Food & Beverage Attendant to become the resort’s Functions Manager. Deciding to develop his career abroad Matt then travelled for five years before returning to Millbrook as an extremely competent Restaurants Manager. Soon after he was offered an internal promotion to his current role of Food & Beverage Operations Manager.

Nicolas Souto who won Housekeeper Employee of the Year is Millbrook Resort’s Executive Housekeeper. He currently manages and mentors both the housekeeping and laundry teams.  Not only is Nicolas responsible for the housekeeping satisfaction of each and every hotel guest throughout the length of their stay, Nicolas also manages regular cleaning jobs for many of Millbrook’s permanent residents at their private homes.  With over a decade’s experience working in front office and concierge roles, Nicolas brings to Millbrook a wealth of hotel knowledge and an excellent understanding of daily operations. Nicolas’s previous hotel experience offers him the ability to view challenges and issues from multiple departments’ perspectives resulting in quick problem-solving, making him a fantastic asset to the business.
