Tell Us About Yourself

Golf is my passion!  I am a Scottish native and with this said I naturally grew up with a golf club in my hand! I moved to Queenstown after graduating from University where I studied Golf Management (surprise surprise). Although my travel plans were only meant to last 6 months (enough time to ‘explore’ before settling into work), 2 years later I am still here! I started my Millbrook career as a seasonal Golf Services Assistant. I am lucky enough to now manage Golf Operations and put my degree to good use (my parents are happy).

What is your typical day at Millbrook like?

All good days should start with a coffee and I start mine with a coffee from the Hole in One cafe. After that it is time to prepare for the day ahead. Preparation is key in the golf department to ensure we live up to our name! Especially when hosting tournaments which can range from our weekly member days to national championships. After a couple of meetings, many happy golfers and a few bad puns later, it is time to go home. The fact that I can combine my passion with my work makes my day fly by!

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is the people that I deal with on a day to day basis. From the other staff members that I speak to throughout the day, to our diverse range of clientele and members that I can speak golf to for hours! I enjoy working in a busy environment and my job certainly provides that! Opportunities to develop yourself are always presented to you at Millbrook. The New Zealand Open week is by far my favorite week of the year.

What is it that makes Millbrook so special?

The environmental setting in which Millbrook is based in is what makes it so special. From the 360 degree mountain views, to the wildlife that you meet on the golf course. Millbrook offers everyone a fantastic opportunity to relax and reflect.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

I try and keep the following mantras in my mind.

Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.

Always have a goal in life to work towards, whether it is a personal one or a professional one. Once that goal is achieved, take some time to value the accomplishment, then create a new one!
